The Fruit of the Spirit
The Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self- control (Galatians 5:22-23). Against such things there is no law.
In Galatians 5:22, the phrase “fruit of the Spirit” refers to the Holy Spirit.
The Apostle Paul states the following nine gifts that result for true repentance, turning away from our sinful towards love for God.
1. Love : "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." - John 13:34
Love is the foundation of all virtues. Treat others with selfless and sacrificial love.
2. Joy : "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" - Philippians 4:4
Find your joy in a relationship with God that transcends circumstances.
3. Peace: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." - John 14:27
Trust in God's sovereignty and find peace in knowing that He is in control.
4. Patience: "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." - Ephesians 4:2
Exercise patience and understanding toward others, just as God is patient with us.
5.Kindness:"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." - Colossians 3:12
Show kindness and compassion to all, reflecting the character of Christ.
6.Goodness: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." - Hebrews 10:24
Live a life of moral excellence, doing good deeds for the benefit of others.
7.Faithfulness: "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things." - Matthew 25:23
Remain steadfast and loyal in your commitments to God and others.
8.Gentleness: "Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near." - Philippians 4:5
Approach others with humility and a gentle spirit, reflecting the character of Christ.
9.Self-Control: "But the fruit of the Spirit is... self-control. Against such things there is no law." - Galatians 5:22-23
Exercise self-discipline over your desires, allowing the Spirit to guide you.
As believers in Jesus, we are given the Holy Spirit to lead them and empower them. In Acts 1:8, Jesus said, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.”
